Middle School Football

Dear Parents/Guardians of Student Athletes,

The Holmen Middle School Football Coaching Staff would like to welcome you to the 2019 season of 7th and 8th grade tackle football.  We are looking forward to another exciting year of competitive play and working with your student athlete(s).  This year our head coaches are Josh Kinsman – 8th grade and Dan Lerberg – 7th grade.  They will be your contacts in case of any questions or concerns. Please don’t hesitate to communicate when necessary!  Their contact information is located at the end of this letter.

As we prepare for the upcoming season, we’d like to go through a few reminders for all involved: 

 

  1. ALL players will need to have required “paperwork” on file with the school district.  Information for completing this process can be found on the Holmen School District Webpage, by clicking on the Activities/Athletics tab, and then the Activities Registration link (https://holmenhs-ar.rschooltoday.com/).  You will find a detailed explanation of requirements needed to be completed for all student athletes. It is important to understand, if your player does not have all necessary documents completed, they will NOT be allowed to practice/participate.
  2. All WIAA players are expected to complete an acclimatization process to “ease” players into the intensity of practice.  All players must complete the 5-day acclimatization process to be cleared to suit up in full pads. Coaches ensure that all players complete this process.  More information can be found on the WIAA website on Fall Football Acclimatization.

 

Here is an overview of our early-season schedule that shows our process of acclimatization.  More information about our schedule will be forthcoming at the parent meeting indicated in the table below.

  1. Practices throughout the remainder of the season will be from 2:55 – 4:45 pm unless otherwise announced.  Athletes should be picked up in the south parking lot (Door A) unless specified by the coaching staff. Please be prompt.
  2. Generally, 7th and 8th grade have 2 teams (dependent on number of players signed up and available).  To maintain competitive groups, players will be split into 2 evenly talented teams.  This is generally completed early in the 2nd week of practice.
  3. Equipment handout will occur on Thursday, 8/29/19 from 3:00 – 4:30 pm. Players will get all of their equipment at this time.  Handout will occur in the MS Fitness Center. The following is a list of equipment provided to your player and equipment that your player will be responsible for having the first day of practice.  :

  • Helmet
  • Athletic Shorts
  • Mouth Guard (Standard one-size fits all)
  • T-Shirt
  • Shoulder Pads
  • Socks
  • Football Pants (w/ needed pads) – If 5-Pad Girdle not purchased
  • Tennis Shoes (In case indoor practice is necessary)
  • Practice Mesh – If player does not have one from or did not participate in youth football.
  • Cleats (Recommended for outdoor practice)
  • Game Jersey
  • 5-Pad Girdle (Optional – Can be purchased for $20 through Holmen Youth Football and available at equipment handout)
  • Practice Mesh – If player has one from youth football
  1. Parent/player/fan Holmen football apparel will be available for purchase this year.  A link will be emailed at a later date giving options for order. Look for more information on this in the near future.
  2. Players will be provided with a locker and lock to keep equipment and belongings safe. Players will be responsible for lost equipment and for cleaning practice/game apparel on a regular basis.
